New York New York
We left Heathrow T4 in bright sunshine heading up and out over Ireland crossing straight over the Atlantic at around 32,000ft. Our estimated travel time was seven and a half hours. It was generally a smooth flight with minor turbulence around the centre of the Atlantic. As we approached land we climbed up to 36,000ft. This is often the case as it can be bumpy. The first piece of land that can be seen after the ocean is the Labrador coast. The east coastline is then followed down over Halifax and Boston and finally to New York. A distance of some 3475 miles. We had a trouble free exit through immigration, although they are now taking all fingerprints as well as a photo. We decided this time rather than go from the airport by taxi, which is a fair distance and a highish cost, we would use public transport. I have to say it was easy, although we needed quite a bit of help from the locals. Firstly we took the Air train, which makes our docklands train look a bit meagre! This took us free of charge to the edge of the very large JFK airport. I didn't realise it was so massive and so spread out. At the edge was the subway. We took the blue A line which brought us right up to 44th Street West. We then just had to walk straight up to our hotel. We have stayed in the Millenium Broadway hotel before so we knew that it was right on Broadway and Times Square. What I had forgotten was the amount of people around and all the activity that is going on there. We ended up in the evening going to a deli for a snack and a drink. By this time it was about 0100 in UK, so we had been going for some time. We called it a day!
